March – NZ Authors’ Month: A Celebration of Independence

Throughout New Zealand there is a move afoot to claim March as NZ Authors’ Month and, in particular, as a Celebration of Independence for authors who publish their own work.

A number of events are planned to raise awareness of the huge range of book titles by independent authors.

Hear members of the Mairangi Writers’ group talk about being independent authors and where to buy their books or order them from the library.

Sun     9 –  2pm-4pm Michael King Centre, Devonport
Wed 19 –   10.30-12pm East Coast Bays Library, Browns Bay
Fri     21-   10.30-11.30am Orewa Library
Mon  24 –  6.00-8.00pm Takapuna Library
Thur  27 – 10.00-12noon Authors’ Mouth, Inverness Room, Bays Community Centre, Glen Road, Browns Bay
Wed     9 – 10.30-11.30am Helensville Library.

It is a little harder to find these books as they are not stocked in mainstream bookstores. You need to check out reader focussed websites like Goodreads, go to author talks at libraries and talk to people about the best Kiwi books they’ve read.

The good news is there is a website coming just for Kiwi readers about Kiwi books by Kiwi Authors.

Watch this space for more events.
