Launch Day for Where Stories Lie Buried — A Memoir of a Genealogy Turned Author In My Own Words
I had a great day at my book launch for Where Stories Lie Buried, last Friday.
With every chair taken, and people engaged, the energy in the room was high. Questions were asked, and a delicious morning tea enjoyed. People purchased books in one corner while others stood and chatted long after I’d finished speaking. What a celebration it turned out to be.
I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone involved but especially to my amazing team of helpers. My author friend, who introduced me with such generous words, and my friend who took control of the morning tea with her smiley face and chatty demeanour.
To my husband who hefted all the books, accessories and paraphernalia from the car to the room and stood in the background. His steadfast support keeps me anchored. To my super-efficient daughter who managed all the sales and frequently handed me another purchase to sign.
Last but not least, thank you to all the people who came to hear me speak, brought another friend with them, and to those who purchased a copy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Congratulations to the lucky attendee who won the prize draw by holding the bookmark with the Book of The Year award sticker on the back. There’s story behind that too. Ask me.
Where Stories Lie Buried is a book that is meant to be used as well as read. While it tells the story behind my stories, and outlines my genealogy journey and writing life, it also offers helpful hints and inspiration to those who are yet to start their journey – whether that is writing or family history research. Now it has been launched in the world, I truly hope that it delivers on everyone’s expectations, including my own.
Since then, I received many good wishes and congratulations, with people genuinely telling me how much they enjoyed my talk. That I’d made them think or inspired them. That they’d learnt something new, that they’d been encouraged. Exactly what I had hoped my presentation – and this book – could do.
The journey doesn’t stop there. I have four more talks to give before the end of the year, and two early in the new year to genealogy societies, book groups and writing circles. Ask if you’d like me to attend your group, but for the immediate future …
On Thursday 15 October, I’ll be at East Coast Bays Library, Browns Bay, for an evening talk — perfect for anyone who couldn’t make a weekday morning. I’d love to see you there. Please join me.
Books can be purchased at the event or from PaperPlus Browns Bay, direct from me, or on Amazon.
